The God Column

Here it is, the inevitable God column. Where I bitch about all things Christian and stupid. But first, a question. With whom would you most like to spend the end?

A colossal failure on the part of the creators. What have they done to us? What have we done to ourselves? Is our society so retarded that we still cling to old traditions and rules? Do people honestly lead their lives based on laws and scriptures written in a time and fashion that renders them almost meaningless in today's society?

What's the deal here? When can we begin to abandon old ideologies and start our own? I'm doing it now, whoever wants to follow can do so. But I will never try to sell you on it or shove it down your throat. Unless you ask/taunt me into doing so.

What is it exactly that I have against the Christian faith, well pretty much any faith in anything. It's that it requires speculation, assumptions and confidence in your belief. This won't work for me. I need proof, proof that's better than circumstantial. I need a Reason to Believe. In the idea of Cheistianity, you believe in God because you need to get to Heaven. Well--I refuse to believe that life boils down to an exclusive club with an Almighty Bouncer who decides who can come. If Heaven exists, everyone should be invited. But why would Heaven exist? It is essentially a way to manipulate yourself into thinking that when you die, you don't really die.

That idea is disturbingly sad to me. Most religions operate this way. Even science has it's elements of skepticism and assumption. But at least science gives answers that apply to today's society. But elitism exists in the Religion of Science as well and I abhor it.

We are all created equal, every single person. We all deserve a right to be free and a right of expression. Religion, democracies, the judicial system, nothing supports these ideas entirely. This is frightening. Because we have all allowed ourselves to become commitidies and statics. It's disgusting. I am not a number or a name. I am me. I am the sum of my experiences. I am who I think I am.

I cannot say that about the faithful. You are who your God wants you to be. Who says that's right? Who says that's wrong? Either way you still deserve to be happy and you shouldn't have to feel that if you make a mistake that you will pay eternally for it.

Live your life the way you want to live it. Not the way someone else tells you to do it. In my eyes, the faithful are like spouses of domestic batters and victims of child abuse. They feel compelled to be around the people that hurt them the most because the perpetrator causes them fear. Fear is one of the most powerful of motivators. Religious leaders know this and are always striving to threaten their subjects into submission. The faithful are bound by their fear and imprisoned by it. Stepping away from it, even questioning the faith may lead you somewhere unknown.

Many claimn that questioning their faith only makes their faith stronger. This just makes me believe that they aren't questioning it enough. Step outside the
Box. You will be surprises at what you find there. It's even more amazing than religious brainwashing. If not, go back to your God. I'm sure he is working on his next guilt trip/whoring session.
